3 Tips to Boost Joy at School Today

You can tell this is an awko taco time of year when you hear teachers start to count down the days to summer, even though that number is still pretty high (but it’s lower if you don’t count any weekend days or memorial day or graduation or testing days … right???).

Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to look forward to things, but I find that the countdown usually starts because morale and energy are getting pretty low.

If you can relate, then you’re in the right place! This week’s 3-2-1 is all about rekindling joy for this current school day, so you can enjoy these coming school days WHILE looking forward to your summer break :)

Here are 3 wellness ideas, 2 quotes, and 1 question to help you boost joy this week.

3 Wellness Ideas from Me

I.

Notice the happy right in front of you. If you look around, you can almost always find something positive in your day - In fact, I dare you to try it right now! Today, keep your eye out for positive moments as they are happening, whether that be a big thing like getting a whole-staff shoutout, or a small thing like your coffee being the perfect temperature when you take that first sip.

II.

Reflect on the highlights from your day. Did you know - You can feel just as much joy looking back on a positive part of your day as when you were living it! Try starting an evening habit of writing down your highlights from the day, and feel the good vibes wash over you a second time.

III.

Plan joy into your week If you still just aren’t seeing many bright spots in your day, plan in some joyful activities yourself! And I mean for this week, or even today. Don’t wait and save all the fun stuff for summer. Plan a dinner date with your favorite person. Plan in a trip before work to pick up your fave breakfast. Plan a weekend mini adventure or spa day. When the joy just doesn’t seem to be there, it’s time to make it ourselves.

2 Quotes from Others

I.

“I don’t have to chase extraordinary moments to find happiness--it's right in front of me if I'm paying attention and practicing gratitude.” - Brené Brown

II.

“Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every single day.” - Henri Nouwen

1 Question For You
