What Work Boundaries are Right For You?

“Help! I’m setting boundaries with work, but I’m still experiencing high stress and burnout.”

If that’s you, it’s possible you’re not setting the boundaries that are right for you and your unique needs.

Boundaries that work for the teacher next door may not work for you, or may in some instances actually increase your stress (Please note that boundaries should always make you feel better - If a boundary is stressing you out, abort mission immediately.).

So how do you figure out the boundaries that are right for you?

The first step is simple: Just notice the signs you need a boundary (listed below!). Notice exactly when they are coming up and what is occurring when they do.

This week, don’t take any action but to curiously take note. While it might not always feel like it, mindfulness is a crucial first step to healing.

If you’re eager and want support to set the work boundaries you need NOW, check out the resources in our membership community.

Signs You Need a Healthy Work Boundary

  • You feel overwhelmed or high levels of stress.

  • You feel resentment toward others.

  • You start procrastinating, avoiding phone calls, or avoiding certain people - especially people who might ask you for help.

  • You have no time for your needs, relationships, or priorities outside of school.

  • You feel a sense of dread before a specific point in your day.

  • You are gossiping, complaining or venting a lot and often feel worse afterwards.

  • You use up a lot of attention and energy on tasks that aren’t actually important.

  • You dream about running away, completely changing professions, or moving to a deserted island.

  • You feel helpless.

Question to Consider

Do you experience any of the signs above during the school week? What is occurring when these feelings or behaviors come up for you?
