Do THIS When Someone at School is Stressing You Out
You interact with so many people in your school community each day that someone’s bound to get under your skin eventually, whether that be another teacher, someone in administration, a student or their parent. It’s part of being human.
Luckily, there are some things you can do to start building healthier relationships in your school community. Healthier relationships = calmer you :)
Here are 3 ideas, 2 quotes, and 1 question to help you relieve stress this school week.
3 Wellness Ideas From Me
I.
Create a clear boundary for that relationship. If you are stressed by someone, it is a good sign that they have crossed a boundary for how you DON’T want to be treated. The first question is, do you know how you would like to be treated? I’m talking specifics here. Take a moment to get really clear with yourself about the behavior you would need from the other person to move forward.
II.
Clearly express your boundary to the other person. They can’t read your mind. Say exactly what you need from them and why it’s important to you.
III.
State your conditions. At the end of the day, you cannot control someone else’s thoughts, feelings, actions or reactions. You can only control your own. Now that you’ve told the other person how you expect to be treated, make it a condition for your interactions. Some examples: “You have the right to call, but I don’t pick up parent calls after hours. Use my online calendar to set up an appointment next week and we can talk then.”; “You can ask for my help with your lesson plan, but I will only help you once I see you have a prepared draft I can help you edit”; “You can yell, but I will not walk with you to recess until you’ve calmed down.”
2 Quotes from Others
