5 Things that Happened when I Started Loving my Body
Have you ever thought or said critical things about your body?
Do you choose what to eat almost exclusively to reach certain body goals?
Do you workout only because you want your body to look a certain way?
There was a time when my answer was “yes” to each of those questions. I believed that once I got to a certain weight or dress size I would finally allow myself to love my body. But from my lowest weight to my highest weight, I could always find something to criticize.
And then I decided to stop waiting and start loving my body NOW. That mindset shift (as with any major mindset shift) was not easy to make, but the more I have focused on showing my body love, the more some amazing things started to happen.

Today I want to share 5 changes I have seen in myself since adopting an attitude of self-love:
1. My confidence increased overall
Constantly picking your body apart really gives the old self-confidence a kick. When you start talking and thinking about your body from a place of love, you start to see all of your good points. And then you want the world to see all of those things that make you amazing too. Even cooler, you start to see your value aside from the physical as well.
2. I had more brain space for my passions
When you decide to love your body as it is now, you stop trying to figure out how to “fix” it. As a result I have been able to focus on pursuing my passions and just enjoying life. And what is life if we’re not enjoying its moments, ya know?
3. I focused on feeling good at the gym
I stopped working out to burn calories or lose fat, and started working out for the energy rush and mental health benefits. I started doing a lot more yoga and walking instead of punishing high intensity workouts. As a result I have stopped resenting exercise and feel more balanced overall.
4. I started eating to feel good
I started actually listening to my body and its cravings before eating. Turns out a lot of the time it craves healthy food because it makes me feel good. But I also give myself the flexibility to eat any food I want. As a result I do not feel deprived or ever feel the need to binge like I used to.
5. I lost weight
I thought for so long I would love myself when I lost weight, but it turns out the opposite was true. Once I started loving myself the weight started coming off. I think part of it is due to the reduced need to binge, part of it is probably because of reduced stress. I’m not trying to micromanage my body anymore, so it can finally relax.
